Our story

Shilton Accounting Services

In 2000 our founder David Cuthbertson moved to the beautiful Cotswold village of Shilton near Burford in Oxfordshire. After a career in industry spanning more than 30 years including working for a Plc and owning his own businesses, he was looking forward to living in a small village for the first time and having time to spend on other things.

After a couple of years, and with his wife still working full time, it became clear that he needed something more to occupy him. So he decided to do some bookkeeping and accounts for some small businesses in the area.

It soon became clear that there was a great local demand for an accountant who could provide compliance services but also good practical advice based upon a full understanding of what is involved in running a business. And so Shilton Accounting Services came into being operating from the front room of his house.

In 2003 Helena Wright joined the business followed two years later by Issie Edwards who was studying for AAT at Witney College. The front room was getting crowded and in 2008 they moved to new offices in the village.

In 2004 the business became members of the Institute of Certified Practising Accountants (ICPA) which provides a range of benefits including £300,000 of professional indemnity insurance.

By 2017 there were six staff and the decision was made to move to larger offices in the local town of Carterton.

Right from the start the aim has been to provide a full bookkeeping and accounting service, but most importantly to provide as much general support as possible to our clients. We want to know as much as we can about their businesses or personal circumstances. We want to be involved in their decision making not just their accounting.

We operate on fixed fees and will only charge for advice in the more complex areas.
